Paris in the Spring: The Perfect 5-Night Itinerary with Giverny, Versailles & Beyond

There is something undeniably magical about Paris in the spring.

After the quiet winter months, the city begins to wake up. Café terraces fill again, gardens burst into bloom, and soft golden light reflects off the Seine as Parisians return outdoors. Trees blossom along the boulevards, flower markets brighten the streets, and the parks become gathering places for picnics and afternoon strolls.

Spring is one of my favorite times to visit Paris. The weather is mild, the city feels vibrant, and it’s the perfect season to explore not only the capital itself but also some of the beautiful regions just beyond it.

With about five nights, travelers can enjoy the highlights of Paris while also venturing out to nearby destinations like Giverny, Versailles, and even the Loire Valley or Champagne region.

Here’s a wonderful way to experience Paris in bloom.

Begin with the Magic of Paris

Spending three full days in Paris allows travelers to enjoy the city without feeling rushed. Some highlights for a spring visit include:

  • Strolling through the Tuileries Garden as flowers begin to bloom

  • Walking along the Seine River and across its historic bridges

  • Visiting iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum, and Notre-Dame Cathedral

  • Exploring charming neighborhoods like Saint-Germain-des-Prés and Le Marais

Spring is also a wonderful time for outdoor experiences in Paris. A Seine river cruise offers beautiful views of the city’s architecture, while an evening spent at a café terrace watching the world go by feels quintessentially Parisian.

A Day Trip to Giverny: Monet’s Garden in Bloom

One of the most enchanting spring excursions from Paris is a visit to Giverny, the home and gardens of the painter Claude Monet.

The gardens that inspired Monet’s famous Water Lilies paintings are particularly beautiful from April through early summer when flowers begin to bloom throughout the property.

Visitors can wander through two distinct gardens:

The Clos Normand flower garden, bursting with colorful rows of tulips, roses, and seasonal blooms.

And the famous Japanese water garden, where the green footbridge and lily ponds appear almost exactly as they do in Monet’s paintings.

It’s easy to reach Giverny from Paris in about an hour by train and short transfer, making it a perfect half- or full-day trip during the spring months.

Versailles: A Glimpse of Royal Grandeur

Another unforgettable excursion from Paris is the magnificent Palace of Versailles.

Originally built as a hunting lodge and later expanded by Louis XIV, Versailles became the center of royal power in France for over a century. Today it remains one of the most spectacular palaces in Europe.

Visitors can explore the grand interiors of the palace, including the famous Hall of Mirrors, before heading out into the expansive gardens.

Spring is a particularly beautiful time to visit Versailles, when the formal gardens begin to bloom and the fountains and tree-lined pathways come alive again after winter.

Renting a bike or golf cart is a wonderful way to explore the massive grounds, which also include the charming Grand Trianon, Petit Trianon, and Marie Antoinette’s Hamlet. I have booked full day bike tours of Versailles for clients where they begin in the town outside Versailles, picking up items for a picnic at a farmer’s market before spending the discovering the sprawling estate, grounds, gardens and palace of Versailles on bike. It is a wonderful way to spend a spring day.

Exploring Beyond Paris

If time allows, travelers staying five nights in Paris can also venture a bit farther afield for another unforgettable day trip.

The Loire Valley

Often called the “Garden of France,” the Loire Valley is known for its fairy-tale castles, vineyards, and rolling countryside. In spring, the region is particularly beautiful as gardens bloom and vineyards begin their growing season.

Visitors can explore elegant châteaux such as Château de Chambord, Château de Chenonceau, or Château de Villandry, famous for its spectacular formal gardens.

Champagne & Reims

Another wonderful option is a day trip to the Champagne region, with a visit to the historic city of Reims.

Here, travelers can tour renowned champagne houses such as Veuve Clicquot, Taittinger, or Ruinart, learning about the centuries-old process of producing France’s most famous sparkling wine.

Reims is also home to the stunning Reims Cathedral, where French kings were crowned for nearly a thousand years.

A Perfect Taste of Paris in the Spring

With five nights, travelers can experience the best of both worlds:

The romance and culture of Paris itself, combined with the beauty of the surrounding regions as nature awakens after winter.

From Monet’s gardens in Giverny to the grandeur of Versailles and the vineyards of Champagne, spring is the season when this part of France truly shines.

Timing, transportation, and choosing the right neighborhoods to stay in can make a big difference when planning a Paris itinerary.

As a travel advisor, I help travelers design trips that balance iconic sights with meaningful experiences—whether that means private guides, curated day trips, or boutique hotels in the perfect location.

If Paris in the spring has been on your wish list, I’d love to help you plan a journey that captures the magic of the season.
